AI & MILITARY
Artificial intelligence (AI) and chatGPT are heavily reported in terms of their potential, both good and dangerous. FGG prefers to focus on one crucial issue: its influence on militaries. It’s one thing to ask about the “unknowns” of AI, but it’s a whole different issue in terms of what it could potentially do to our military, and, especially, our opponents. Not to say that AI will turn into a Hollywood-ish “Terminator" scenario where reckless computers take over governments and militaries, but then again… we must recognize the potential for horror because, well, who knows…
The proposal here is an international treaty among all military powers banning the use of AI in military technology. It’s a wise precaution. We don’t know what Russia or China or Iran or Korea will do with this technology, and it’s better to put a stop to it before it turns to a nightmare we will regret… like existential threats made not by men, but by machines. We had better watch out. Reasonable precautions make sense. It’s advisable to commence international negotiations and prevent a costly and deadly AI arms race.
